Buy EP "Jo has one of the most perfect pure tonal voices I've heard in a long time...(Jo) provides a study in singer-songwriter production" Billy Shaw "Exquisite.....soul reaching" Tashka Urban "Masterful and refreshing all at once" Red Baron Jo Young is a singer and songwriter from Northern NSW in Australia. Jo’s music tells the stories of her life, relationships and her take on the
world. Her style is a blend of contemporary Australian
folk and pop. Jo says "Leaving full time work to be a stay at home mum was like being shunted into a parallel universe. The sudden isolation, steep learning curve and almost total sleep deprivation resulted in my suffering from post-natal depression. Luckily with the help of my incredible husband and some wonderful community organisations (Tresillian Foundation and the Parent Infant Foundation of Australia) I got through it. I hope that hearing Baby Boy might help other parents who might find that becoming a parent isn't necessarily all joy and light like a nappies ad." Jo plans to share her royalties from the song with these organisations. Jo has been playing and writing music since she taught herself to play Little Brown Jug on her father’s ukulele at age 8. She plays guitar, piano and keyboards, Penny Whistle and Mandolin. While studying at Southern Cross University Jo wrote songs for and performed with bands Tane (with Dolphin Award winners Don Ruttan and Phil Ashworth) and Samsara. In 2000 Jo began her solo career with a three month residency at the National Hotel in Fremantle WA. Since the birth of her son in 2003 her muse has been strengthened and her creativity supported and encouraged by other songwriters such as Terry Brogan, Peter Lane and Roaring Hum, Roxanne Kiely and Stephen Kiely and British Greek music whiz Latis. Jo is part of the worldwide songwriters community known as Songsalive. Jo is the coordinator of the Byron Bay chapter of Songsalive which will be launched in November 2005.
